Our team is made up of bike passionate people. We are all riders and racers, participating in nearly all disciplines of the sport. Come in and have a yarn, about bikes or any of our other passions. We look forward to seeing you! Cheers.
An industry veteran, since 1971, our fearless leader has been a passionate cyclist all his life. He stared road cycling on a Peugeot 12-speed he saved up for two years to buy! Road cycling was his passion until one fateful day in 1988 when he spied a mountain bike in the window of Chaineys Cycles in Feilding, the rest is history. Steve raced the national MTB series through the early 90's, mixing in trials riding and road racing. He has completed the Karapoti Classic 26 times, with 10x sub-3hr finishes. That's some serious pedaling! He won the innaugural Gentle Annie MTB race by an impressive 22 minutes over second place, and the 80k Tour of Manawatu by 8 minutes. These days riding is still a regular feature, along with a spot of fishing and spending time with Rach and Casper.
Sam claims the Marlborough Sounds as his roots but has spent most of his life in Kapiti. After a short lived stint racing BMX, he realized his mountain bike could take him further. His first big ride was 6 hours from Nelson to French Pass at 13 years old. Sam has been riding and racing all over New Zealand since then. Some of his notable favorite races - Rainbow Rage, Karapoti, Whaka 100, Tour of Southland, Tour of Wellington, Santoff Sizzler, Wainuiomata 6hr, Taupo Day Night Thriller, The Grape Ride, The Queen’s Birthday Tour, The Taupo-Napier Race, Road Nationals, Track Nationals, Crit Nationals, Tour of Tahiti, and many others. Sam also enjoys rock climbing, kayaking, bushcraft and a bit of hunting. Truly passionate about wrenching, he finds himself tinkering away in the garage even on his days off. Fully committed to the bike lyfe, he just keeps coming back for more… more bikes, more racing, more adventures, more fun, just more of everything bikes!
Graeme is a dual-blooded Kiwi-American recently transplanted from the hills of Kentucky. An avid seeker of the road less travelled, Graeme prefers a wider tire and a looser surface. His race of choice presents with the early winter morning frosted over peanut butter mud of a cyclocross course. His favourite bike he’s owned was a custom built steel frame Fuji Espree Single Speed. “The bikes you piece together out of necessity are the most satisfying to ride”. Graeme has stood atop CX and XC MTB podiums across the “Indyucky” region of the United States and enjoyed the crunch of gravel roads along the famous Route 66. You can currently find him climbing hills in the Tararua’s, plowing through Upper Hutt CX mud, and exploring our beautiful North Island on two wheels.
Is it a UFO? The Starship Enterprise? No, that's Rodney charging up behind you lit up like a Christmas tree. Rodney is... well... Rodney. A regular at The Karapoti Classic, as well as the Lake Taupo Challenge, Rodney is an aficionado of multiple cycling disciplines. And coffee. A Masters Games Gold Medalist, and Manawatu Mountain Bike Club Winter Series age group winner, Rodders now spends his days hunched over the aerobars on his SBC Chisel, towing his friends through Linton. Next year you can find him in his element on the Tour Aotearoa, not waiting.
A co-founder of our little paradise on Cuba Street, Rachel is an invaluable member of our team. Hailing from Christchurch, Rachel has enjoyed rides and races across New Zealand. Some of her favorites include Rainbow Rage, Martinborough Challenge, Manawatu and Wanganui MTB Club Champs and races, Day Night Thriller, Santoft Sizzler, Porirua Grand Traverse, NZ Masters Games (MTB), Tour de Manawatu, 100k Flyer, and the Palmerston North MTB Series all on a full quiver of Specialized mountain bikes. Her absolute favorite (so far) has been the Lake Hawea Epic MTB race, boasting unforgettable terrain and beautiful scenery. These days she can be found puddle jumping around the Manawatu with her littler sidekick, and Casper the dog.
